Motown was released in 2003 and is Michael McDonald’s first of two Motown tribute albums. The album produced a number of hit songs including the epic cover of Marvin Gaye’s “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” and the classic tribute to Stevie Wonder’s “Signed, Sealed, Delivered (I’m Yours)”. Motown has achieved massive critical and commercial success around the world and has also been certified Platinum by the RIAA.
After the release of 2003’s Motown, Michael McDonald built a reputation for having the ability to create a brilliant tribute album. Motown II, McDonald’s second Motown cover album, was released on October 26th, 2004 and makes an even bigger claim to his abilities as a Motown singer. This Gold-certified album contains a number of classic covers, including “Reach Out, I’ll Be There”, “Baby I Need Your Loving” and “The Tracks Of My Tears”.
Released in March of 2008, Soul Speak is the eighth studio album from Michael McDonald. The album is a compilation of classic cover songs, sung with the soulful charisma only characteristic of Michael McDonald’s velvety tenor voice. Stand-out tracks on Soul Speak include, “(Your Love Keeps Lifting Me) Higher And Higher”, “Walk On By” and the classic Van Morrison ballad, “Into The Mystic”. Michael McDonald makes no effort to imitate these artists and that is what makes this album so special – how he is able to bring new life to these classics with the tenacity and tenderness of his voice.
